Field Hockey Storms Past Unbeaten Gwynedd-Mercy College, 4-1

Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue tallied 17 saves in Cabrini's 4-1 win against Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday.

RADNOR, Pa. –
The Cabrini field hockey team scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory versus unbeaten Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Junior forward Lauren Alessi scored the game's eventual winning tally just 18 seconds into the second half.

Sophomore back Taylor McGarvey's second goal of the season in the 17th minute got the Cavaliers on the scoreboard and tied the contest at 1-1. McGarvey's tally, set up by senior back Allie Rodolico, answered the Griffins' first score of the game less than two minutes prior.

The Blue & White deposited three goals in the second half, beginning with Alessi's decisive tally, off a feed from senior midfielder Shannon Mulhern, at the 35:18 mark. Just over eight minutes later, junior forward Stephanie Campanaro pushed the Cavaliers' lead to two goals, 3-1, on a break-away at the 43:27 mark.

Sophomore forward Lindsey Atzert iced the victory for Cabrini, scoring the game's final goal in the 64th minute.

Freshman forward Maria Karidas scored Gwynedd-Mercy's lone goal of the contest at the 15:11 mark.

Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue recorded 17 saves for her 39th career win. Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylin Bassett notched six stops in the loss for the Griffins.

The victory moves the Cavaliers into sole possession of first place in the CSAC.

Cabrini (8-5, 5-1) resumes its CSAC regular season schedule on the road at the College of Notre Dame on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Game time against the Gators is set for 4 p.m.
