READING, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team concluded its regular season schedule on Thursday night, dropping a 2-0 decision in the final minutes on the road against non-conference opponent Alvernia University. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue totaled 10 saves for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Junior Tonya Rutt deposited the eventual game-winning tally after nearly 67 minutes of scoreless play, converting a feed from sophomore Erin Solley at the 66:26 mark. Sophomore Mirando Peto provided the Lions with an insurance score in the contest's final minute at the 69:59 mark, finishing a pass from sophomore Lauren Guido.
Alvernia out-shot Cabrini for the game overall, 20-4. Junior Stephanie Campanaro led the Cavaliers' offense with three shot attempts.
Donahue lasted all 70 minutes in the cage for the Blue & White, logging her 14th complete game effort of the season. Junior goalkeeper Abby Eby posted four saves in the victory for the Lions.
Cabrini now prepares for the postseason as the No. 1 seed for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament. The Cavaliers will host the playoffs at Edith Robb Dixon Field throughout and have earned a quarterfinal round bye.
Cabrini (10-7) will host the semifinal round of the CSAC Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Time and opponent are to be determined.
