RADNOR, Pa. –
Sophomore back Taylor McGarvey's first career goal broke a 1-1 tie with less than 15 minutes remaining and propelled the Cabrini field hockey team to a 3-1 victory against unbeaten Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Keystone College at Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday afternoon. The win stands as the 149th in the career of 15th-year head coach Jackie Neary.

McGarvey supplied Cabrini a lead it would never relinquish after tipping in a shot from junior midfielder Maura Gordon. Senior midfielder Shannon Mulhern also earned an assist on the decisive tally, setting up the goal on a penalty corner attempt.

The Cavaliers added an insurance tally at the 64:54 mark when Mulhern re-directed a shot from the top of the arc from senior back Courtney Davis. Cabrini scored two goals in the final 14:38 en route to the victory.

Junior forward Lauren Alessi scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 26:43 mark of the first half, providing the Blue & White with a 1-0 advantage.

The Cabrini defense held the Giants scoreless for the opening 52 minutes before junior forward Brackney Brotzman slipped a loose ball in front past senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue. The Keystone attack was held to just four shots for the game overall.

The Cavaliers' offense generated 20 total shots, including 13 in the first half. Alessi led the Cabrini charge with 10 shot attempts.

Donahue needed only one save for her sixth win of the season and the 37th of her career. Junior goalkeeper Melinda Moore totaled nine saves for the Giants in the loss.

The victory is Cavaliers' third straight against a CSAC opponent after opening the season with a 1-0 loss at Immaculata University on Sept. 21.

Cabrini (6-4, 3-1) resumes its non-conference schedule at home against Widener University on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. Against the Pride, the Cavaliers will be raising money for the nation-wide “Play 4 the Cure” fundraising initiative, benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation and American Cancer Society.
