READING, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament and 2010 season came to a close on Wednesday night following a 2-1 loss at Freedom Conference opponent Alvernia University. Sophomore forward Alex Tralie netted her seventh goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the loss.
After more than 52 minutes of scoreless play, the Crusaders grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 52:44 mark after junior midfielder Amy Mesce converted a feed from freshman forward Rachel Gimber.
Gimber's second assist of the match on a goal from freshman midfielder Hillary Prozzillo in the 56th minute handed Alvernia a 2-0 advantage.
Cabrini trimmed its deficit in half with Tralie's unassisted marker at the 65:00 mark. However, despite out-shooting the Crusaders for the match, 15-9, the Blue & White would climb no closer.
Senior goalkeeper Gianna Porretta recorded four saves in her final outing with the Cavaliers. Porretta concludes her Cabrini tenure with 28 career victories and a 1.31 goals-against average and .778 save percentage.
Senior goalkeeper Kirsten Kelley tallied eight stops in the victory for Alvernia. The win advances the Crusaders to the semifinal round of the ECAC South Region Tournament.
The loss also marks the end of the careers for senior back Brianna Conner, senior forward Annmarie Kolla and senior midfielder Dana Nardello.
Conner shouldered a bulk of the Cavaliers' defensive unit in 74 career matches played. She also contributed 12 points with four goals and four assists on the offensive end.
Kolla ends her Cabrini run with 60 career points, scoring 22 goals and adding 16 assists. It was Kolla's overtime goal in the championship match of the 2009 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament that sent the Cavaliers back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.
Nardello capped her time as a Cavalier as the CSAC Player of the Year selection in 2010. She notched 44 career points with the Blue & White, netting 12 goals and contributing 20 assists.
The Cabrini women's soccer team, under the leadership of ninth-year head coach Ken Prothero, finishes the 2010 season with a 14-4-1 overall record.
