RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Cabrini volleyball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season on Saturday night, capturing the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title with a 3-1 win versus No. 2 seed Baptist Bible College at Nerney Field House. Junior outside hitter Alexis Doss was named the match's most valuable player.
Doss powered the Cavaliers' attack with a team-best 15 kills. Sophomore Sophia Sokolovich notched her ninth double-double of the season with 10 kills and a club-high 22 digs.
Senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau, the two-time CSAC Player of the Year, added seven kills.
Freshman setter Alaina Clark posted her 13th double-double of the season with 31 assists and 13 digs.
The Cabrini defense boasted five players with at least 10 kills, also including senior libero Courtney Abel (16), freshman defensive specialist specialist Kristy Riley (14) and freshman defensive specialist Michelle McCrossin.
Freshman middle hitter Michele Fitz led the Blue & White at the net, posting five total blocks. Recklau collected four total blocks.
The Cavaliers stormed to the crown with a 25-16 victory in game four. Cabrini clinched the match win with a .256 team attack percentage in the decisive set.
However, it took a rally effort in game one to get the Blue & White clicking. Cabrini trailed 22-16 in the first set before winning nine of the next 10 points en route to a 25-23 victory.
After Baptist Bible evened the contest at 1-1 with a 25-18 triumph in game two, the Cavaliers out-lasted the Defenders in a critical third frame with a 27-25 win.
Sokolovich and Doss were especially brilliant in the fourth set, tallying five and four kills, respectively. Clark served up 11 helpers in game four.
Senior Marlie Kneifel led the Defenders with a match-high 16 kills. Sophomore setter Katelin Broughton guided the BBC attack with 48 assists.
Under fourth-year head coach Eric Schaefer, the victory advances Cabrini to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The win also clinches the Cavaliers' 73rd CSAC title all-time dating back to the 1992-93 season.
Cabrini (23-7) will learn of its NCAA Tournament fate on Monday, Nov. 8. The NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Committee will announce the field at 11 a.m. via ncaa.com.
