MADISON, N.J. –
The Cabrini field hockey team earned its first win of the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon, blanking Landmark Conference opponent Drew University, 2-0. Junior forward Lauren Alessi and junior midfielder Maura Gordon each scored one goal, and senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue recorded the 10th shutout of her career.

After a scoreless first half and more than 11 minutes played without a goal in the second half, Alessi broke the offensive silence with her first goal of the season and the 26th of her Cabrini tenure at the 66:08 mark. Sophomore forward Lindsey Atzert was credited with the assist.

Gordon added the Cavaliers' insurance tally, the 25th of her career, at the 69:55 mark off a feed from Alessi. The Cabrini offense notched 11 shots for the game, including nine in the second half.

Donahue went the distance and made 11 stops for her first shutout of the season.

The Drew attack tallied 16 shots overall. Junior forward Megan Howlett accounted for half of that total, attempting eight shots versus the Cabrini defense.

Freshman goalkeeper Christiana Carlini played all 70 minutes and registered three saves in the loss for Drew.

The victory is the Blue & White's second in three seasons against the Rangers. Behind two goals from Alessi, the Cavaliers' 2-1 victory on Aug. 30, 2008 was the program's first all-time against Drew.

Cabrini (1-1) resumes its non-conference schedule on the road Saturday, Sept. 11 versus Centennial Conference foe No. 20 Gettysburg College. Game time against the Bullets is set for 1 p.m.
