Field Hockey Falls in Regular Season Finale

Box Score

READING, Pa. – The Cabrini College field hockey team closed its 2012 regular season today with a 4-0 nonconference loss at Alvernia University.  The loss evens the Cavaliers record at 8-8.

The Blue and White fell behind midway through the first half as Alvernia's Melanie Lowry found the goal in the 19th minute.  Just over a minute later, Miranda Peto doubled Alvernia's advantage.

In the 28th minute, Brittany Barcus converted a penalty stroke, extending the Crusaders' lead to 3-0.

The Cavaliers struggled to muster much offense in the first half, as they were held without a shot or penalty corner in the opening 35 minutes.

The Blue and White tried to find its scoring touch in the second half with five shot but Alvernia goaltender Erin Wunsch was there to stop all five attempts.  The Crusaders iced the game in the 60th minute on Nikki Wessner's unassisted goal.

Cabrini's junior goaltender Genevieve Paulin recorded 10 saves in the loss.

By virtue of Cabrini's 6-1 mark during its CSAC campaign, the Cavaliers will enter next week's CSAC tournament as the number two seed and host Keystone College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in a conference semifinal.

The winner will face the winner of the other conference semifinal, which pits Gwynedd-Mercy College against Marywood University, in Saturday's championship match.
