SCRANTON, Pa. – The #11 Cabrini College men's lacrosse team got off to a great start as the Cavaliers rolled to a sixth straight win, defeating Marywood University 18-4 today in Scranton, Pa.
The win improves the Blue and White to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. It also runs Cabrini's CSAC win streak to 85 games.
Just days after senior
Brian Hill set new career highs, junior
Bobby Thorp followed suit. Thorp tallied eight points on five goals and three assists, all career bests. Hill added a hat trick and two assists, while freshman
Damian Sobieski posted two goals and two helpers.
Freshman
Anthony DiSanzo opened the Cavaliers' scoring five minutes into the game. Thorp extended Cabrini's lead when he converted a
Matt Biegel pass for his first goal of the day. Junior
J.T. Ervin found Hill at the 5:18 mark to give the Blue and White a 3-0 lead.
Thorp sandwiched a pair of goals around a Marywood score to complete his first period hat trick. After 15 minutes, the Cavaliers led the Pacers 5-1.
The Cavaliers used an amazing 46 second spurt early in the second quarter to put the game away. Cabrini scored four goals in during the spurt, to take a 9-1 lead. Sobieski recorded two assists to Ervin and Thorp at 13:52 and 13:42.
At the 13:17 mark, Sobieski turned a Hill pass into his 10th goal of the season. Eleven seconds later, sophomore
JoJo Cooper ended the run with an unassisted tally.
The Blue and White continued its scoring touch through the final 13 minutes of the half, posting five more goals before the break for a 14-2 halftime lead. Thorp recorded a goal and two assists during the stretch. DiSanzo and Hill scored their second, while freshmen
Eric Streicher and
Ben Laffoon marked the score sheet.
While freshman
Mike Leyden's 10th goal of the year was the only goal scored in the third period, the Cavaliers had a few more shots saved for the final quarter. Hill and Sobieski found the net midway through the period, before Cooper completed his first career multi-goal game.
Cooper led the Cavaliers with seven ground balls, as juniors
Andrew Kvech and
Tim Grenier secured five apiece. Grenier and fellow junior
Tyler Grau also caused two turnovers each.
Sam Trill scored two goals for the Pacers (4-4, 1-1 CSAC).
The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday when they host Whittier (Ca.) College. The nonconference game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
