ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back today at Rosemont College, downing the Ravens 28-3. The win improves Cabrini's record to 12-2 and marks the team's 110th consecutive win over a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent.
Today's 28 goals marked the Blue and White's highest scoring output since a 27-1 win at Misericordia on April 12, 2008.
Sixteen different Cavaliers found the net, including hat tricks by senior
Brian Hill, junior
Bobby Thorp and freshmen
Kevin MacQuilliam and
Julius Mouser.
The Cavaliers took an early lead as Hill opened the scoring 87 seconds into play. Ten seconds later, sophomore
JoJo Cooper found the net for an early 2-0 lead. The Ravens cut the lead in half with 13 minutes left in the quarter.
Fifteen seconds later, senior
John McSorley found Thorp for a 3-1 lead and the Cavaliers were off and running. At the 8:45 mark, Thorp found the net for the second time in the game. Thirty seconds later, Thorp returned the favor to McSorley for the senior's third goal of the season.
Midway through the period, freshman
Damian Sobieski increased Cabrini's lead to 6-1. Freshman
Mike Leyden and Hill tallied goals 16 seconds apart. Mouser's first goal of the day came with 75 seconds to play in first quarter.
Senior
Joe Arrell's goal with four seconds on the clock gave the Blue and White a 10-1 lead after the first quarter.
Sophomore
Matt Biegel opened the second quarter with a goal at the 12:12 mark. Over the next two minutes, goals by Hill and Thorp extended Cabrini's lead to 13-1. Freshman
Enrique Montoya and Mouser exchanged the Blue and White's next three goals.
Seven seconds later, freshman
Anthony DiNenno posted his second goal of the year. Sobieski scored his second tally of the day before junior defenseman Vincent Silveira scored the first goal of his college career.
After a Rosemont goal, Cabrini sophomore
James Lindsay and MacQuilliam added goals in the final minute of the half, sending the Cavaliers to the break with a 21-2 lead.
Mouser and freshman
Ben Laffoon added goals in the first three minutes of the second half. MacQuilliam and fellow freshman
Frank Magazu added a pair of goal in the second half.
Hill, Thorp, Sobieski and Montoya recorded three assists each.
DiNenno and senior
Andrew Zelinski combined to win 19 of 24 faceoffs and secure 15 ground balls.
McSorley and junior defenseman
Tyler Grau each forced a pair of turnovers. The Cavaliers allowed just three shots on goal, while taking 36.
Rosemont's Justin Regan posted two goals for the Ravens (0-13, 0-6).
The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Saturday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College to face the Griffins. The CSAC finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
