MADISON, N.J. – The Cabrini College field hockey team dropped its season-opener this morning, falling 2-0 to Swarthmore College in the opening game of the Drew University Fall Festival in Madison, N.J.
The score sheet remained clean until the 27th minute when Swarthmore's Katie Teleky deflected a shot into Cabrini's goal. The Garnet took the one goal advantage into halftime.
The Blue and White successfully defended seven Swarthmore penalty corners before the break, while each team recorded seven shots.
The Cavaliers turned up the offense after the break, outshooting Swarthmore 9-4 and securing 11 penalty corners to the Garnet's four.
Cabrini fell behind 2-0 in the 59th minute as an attempted shot block deflected into Cabrini's net.
Sophomore
Karlie Gruccio paced Cabrini's offense, recording eight shots, including three on goal. Junior goaltender
Genevieve Paulin posted five saves in the loss.
The Blue and White will close the festival tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. when they face the host Drew University. The Ranger (1-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Mercy College in today's second game.
