Box Score
RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini College field hockey team finally got a taste of home cooking and it led to the team's first win of the season. Two goals in the game's final five minutes led to the Cavalier's 3-2 win over the visiting Delaware Valley College Aggies today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
With less than a minute on the clock, a yellow card to Delaware Valley freshman Taylor Pritchett gave the Blue and White a penalty stroke. Senior
Katie Savage calmly walked to the spot and launched a perfect shot to the upper right corner of the goal for the game winner and the senior's first career goal.
Savage's game winner would not have been possible if not for a play made four minutes earlier. As the Blue and White found itself trailing 2-1 in the 66th minute,
coach
Jackie Neary needed someone to make a big play.
Senior
Lindsey Atzert stepped to the plate, carrying the ball down the right sideline and firing a pass to the middle. Junior
Stephanie Toomey was in the perfect position to send the ball into the net for her second goal of the season and fourth of her career.
The Aggies opened the scoring in the 11th minute when sophomore Kelsey Zook converted a Rony Jacober pass after a penalty corner. Cabrini leveled the score in the 28th minute as it was the recipient of a Delaware Valley miscue leading to an own goal.
The score remained 1-1 until the 57th minute when Jacober found the net on an unassisted tally.
The Aggies (1-3) outshot the Cavaliers 15-7 for the game including a 9-2 advantage before halftime. Delaware Valley also maintained a sizable advantage in first half penalty corners, with 12 to Cabrini's two. The Blue and White reversed that stat after the break with 10 penalty corners to the Aggies' one.
The Cavaliers (1-4) will return to the road on Thursday, September 18 as they travel to Baltimore to face Notre Dame (Md.) University. The action is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
