MADISON, N.J. – The Cabrini College field hockey team fell to host Drew University on Sunday 3-2 in the final game of the Drew University Fall Festival. The loss drops the Blue and White to 0-2 on the young season.
The Rangers opened the scoring in the 14th minute and carried the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break. Drew outshot the Cavaliers 6-3 in the opening 35 minutes and secured eight penalty corners to Cabrini's three.
Senior
Taylor McGarvey evened the score just minutes into the second half when she converted a pass from fellow senior
Katie Savage into the Blue and White's first goal of the season.
Just over five minutes later, Drew regained the lead. The Cavaliers trailed 2-1 until the 64th minute when Taylor struck again.
With just over six minutes on the clock, senior
Rita McKeown bounced a pass in front of the goal the found McGarvey. McGarvey redirected the ball into the back of the net, tying the score at 2.
Again the Rangers would respond, tallying the game-winning goal 83 seconds later.
Sophomore
Karlie Gruccio recorded a team high five shots on the day, while junior goaltender
Genevieve Paulin posted six saves.
The Cavaliers will return to New Jersey on Wednesday where they will face Rowan University(0-1). The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
