RADNOR, Pa. – The Cavaliers field hockey team accomplished two feats with tonight's 2-0 victory over the visiting Immaculata Mighty Macs at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The win extended Cabrini's win streak to six games, while solidifying its hold on first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The win also gave Blue and White field hockey and women's lacrosse head coach
Jackie Neary her 400th career victory at Cabrini. Neary joins former men's basketball coach John Dzik as the only coaches in school history to accomplish the feat.
Dzik hired Neary 18 years ago to take over the field hockey program and one year later she started Cabrini's women's lacrosse team. Since then, Neary has accumulated 14 total CSAC championship and been named CSAC Coach of the Year nine times.
After remaining scoreless for the majority of the first half, the Cavaliers opened the scoring in the 29th minute as freshman
Kylie McDevitt found sophomore
Kerry Anne Farrell for her 15th goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until the 60th minute when junior
Karlie Gruccio converted a pass from freshman
Taylor Mack into her sixth goal of the year.
The Blue and White controlled the runoff play, outshooting Immaculata 15-2 and earning 16 penalty corners to the Mighty Macs' three. Gruccio led the way with five shots on the night, while Farrell and senior
Erin McLaughlin added three each.
Freshman goaltender Sarah Pasternak recorded five saves for Immaculata (5-11, 3-2 CSAC).
The Cavaliers will close their CSAC slate on Saturday when they visit Scranton's Riverfront Sports to face Keystone College. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
