SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team improved to 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 3-1 victory at Marywood University. The victory improves the Cavaliers to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Sophomore
Kerry Anne Farrell put the Blue and White on the board in the 10th minute when she converted a pass from senior
Erin McLaughlin. The senior notched the scoring column eight minute later with an unassisted tally, her fifth goal of the year and fourth in the last five games.
The Cavaliers carried the 2-0 advantage into the second half after outshooting the Pacers 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes of action. The Pacers sliced into Cabrini's lead in the 44th minute as Molly Westbrook put Marywood on the board.
The Cavaliers iced the game in the 55th minute as Farrell redirected a shot by freshman
Kylie McDevitt. The goal was the sophomore 20th and gave her 50 total points in her career.
For the game, Cabrini outshot the Pacers 20-9 and earned 14 penalty corners to Marywood's two. Farrell led the way with six shots, while McLaughlin and junior
Karlie Gruccio added five each. Senior goaltender
Genevieve Paulin recorded five saves to earn the win.
Marywood netminder Natalie Winters recorded nine saves for the Pacers (1-10, 0-1 CSAC).
The Blue and White will return to action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when the host Cedar Crest College in the team's annual Play for the Cure game to benefit breast cancer awareness.
