RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team won its third consecutive game and fourth in its last five outings in a wire to wire victory over the visiting Cedar Crest College Falcons. The 8-0 win improved the Blue and White to 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and 5-6 overall.
Tonight's was also a special game as the Cavaliers joined teams across the country as part of the Play 4 the Cure initiative to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Cabrini was joined pregame and on the sidelines by field hockey coach and breast cancer survivor Pam Barr.
The Blue and White wasted little time taking control of tonight's game as sophomore
Kerry Anne Farrell scored the first of her two goals just over two minutes into the game. Junior
Karlie Gruccio notched the scoring column in the sixth minute with her fourth of the year.
Senior
Erin McLaughlin's eighth minute goal gave the Cavaliers a 3-0 less than eight minutes in the action. In the 15th minute, sophomore
Jen Webb found Farrell for her CSAC leading 11th goal of the season. Senior
Stephanie Toomey netted the first of her two on the night in the 20th minute, giving Cabrini a 5-0 lead it would carry into the break.
In the 51st minute, freshman
Kylie McDevitt carried the ball the length of the field before scoring her first career goal. Just three minutes later, sophomore
Tiffany Phillips found Toomey for her second career two goal game. Sophomore
Meghan Loughman closed the scoring in the 63rd minute with her second goal of the year.
Senior
Genevieve Paulin and sophomore
Kate Stevens combined for three saves in Cabrini's net to recorded the shared shutout.
The Blue and White will have a few days off before it visits Gwynedd Mercy University (5-6, 1-0 CSAC) next Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will mark a rematch of the last three CSAC championship games.
