# 5 Men's Lacrosse Stumbles at #3 Lynchburg

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second consecutive season, the No. 5 Cabrini College men's lacrosse team fell just short against No. 3 Lynchburg College.  The Blue and White suffered an 11-9 loss today in Lynchburg, dropping the Cavaliers to 1-2 on the young season.  Last year's comeback against the Hornet fell short as well, as Cabrini lost 8-7.

The Cavaliers got off to a great start as sophomore Anthony DiSanzo opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game.  The lead was short lived as Lynchburg responded with a pair over the next three minutes.  Junior Corey Elmer leveled the score with his first of the day at the 8:20 mark of the opening quarter.

The Hornets took control of the period over the final six minutes, tallying four unanswered goals, building a 6-2 advantage after 15 minutes.

Sophomore Mike Leyden got one goal back early in the second quarter.  Five minutes into the period, DiSanzo's second tally of the game brought Cabrini within 6-4, but Lynchburg responded with two unanswered goals for an 8-4 advantage with 8:49 to play before halftime.

Cabrini responded with three unanswered goals, as shots by DiSanzo, sophomore Ben Laffoon, and Elmer found the back of the net over the next five minutes, slicing Lynchburg's lead to 8-7.  The Hornets added another score before the break, taking a 9-7 lead into halftime.

The Hornets extended their lead less than 90 seconds into the second half but sophomore Ethan Heisman responded with his second tally of the season.  Both teams tightened their defenses, as the score remained 10-8 through three quarters.

The fourth quarter played out like the third, as Lynchburg extended its lead just 27 seconds into the period.   Elmer completed his hat trick with just under nine minutes to play, bringing the Blue and White to within 11-9.  Cabrini fired five of its 52 shots in the game's final minutes but could not find the back of the net.

DiSanzo and Elmer recorded three goals on nine shots each.  Sophomore Mike Leyden added a goal and an assist.  Senior net minder Erick Zarzecki recorded 11 saves.

Vin Curran led the Hornets (3-0) with four goals.

The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday when they visit Swarthmore College (.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
