ASTON, Pa. – The No. 8 Cabrini men's lacrosse team extended its Colonial states Athletic Conference win streak to 94 games today with a resounding 21-0 win at Neumann University. The Cavaliers improve to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the league, while extending their current win streak to seven games. The victory also marks the Blue and White's first shutout since a 13-0 win over Eastern University on March 12, 2008.
While 11 players found the back of the net today, it was the efforts of junior
Corey Elmer and senior
Bobby Thorp that led the attack. Elmer posted his fourth game this season with at least eight points, totaling four goals and four assists on the day. Thorp added five points on four goals and a helper. Sophomore
Ethan Heisman and freshman
Bruce Overbay added hat tricks, while junior
Joey Shallow tallied three assists.
The Cavaliers jumped on the board early, as Thorp opened the scoring 29 seconds into the game with an unassisted tally. Elmer doubled the lead with just under nine minutes to play. The lead grew nine seconds later, as sophomore
Anthony DiNenno won the ensuing faceoff before finding Heisman for his first of the game. Elmer's second of the game came with just under eight minutes remaining in the quarter.
Elmer found Heisman at the 5:50 mark, for the sophomore's second goal in three minutes. The assist marked Elmer's 100th career point. Junior
JoJo Cooper recorded his first point since the season-opener when her assisted on Thorp's second goal of the day. The senior completed his hat trick with 49 seconds left in the opening quarter, extending Cabrini's lead to 7-0.
The Cavaliers struck quickly in the second quarter as well, as sophomore
Mike Leyden tallied his 16th goal of the season. Thorp completed his goal scoring with 10:15 left in the period when he converted a pass from Elmer. Heisman completed his hat trick at the 7:17 mark of the period, on senior
Joe Hughes' first helper of 2013. Elmer's third goal of the day came with 3:38 to play before the break, as Thorp returned the favor. After 30 minutes, the Blue and White led 11-0.
Hughes opened the second half with his first goal since the 2010 season at the 10:57 mark. Less than one minute later, fellow senior
Andrew Layne tallied his fifth goal of the year. Elmer completed his afternoon with his 36th score of the season. Sophomore
Ben Laffoon added his 10th career goal with 3:38 to play in the third quarter.
The final quarter belonged to Overbay and Shallow, as the duo combined for seven points in the final period. Overbay opened the quarter with his fourth career goal 45 seconds into play. Shallow's goal came at the 11:25 mark, extending the lead to 17-0. Shallow then assisted on the next three goals, over a span of 3:30. Two of the goals came from Overbay, while the final came as the second of the year for rookie
Cole Campbell. Sophomore
Frank Magazu added an unassisted score with 5:00 on the clock.
The shutout was anchored by a trio of Blue and White netminders. Freshman
Chris Treat improved to 6-1 on the season, recording 10 saves. Seniors
Kevin Gallagher and
James Scott also saw time between the pipes.
DiNenno and senior
Andrew Kvech shared game high honors with seven ground balls each, while forced a career high three turnovers.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season home slate on Saturday as they welcome the Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The 1:00 p.m. start will be preceded by the Blue and White's annual Senior Day Ceremony, which will start at approximately 12:45 p.m.
