RADNOR, Pa.  – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to eight games and clinched the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament with today's 18-6 Senior Day win over the visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins.  The victory improves the Cavaliers to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

Today's game marked the final regular season appearance for the Blue and White's 16 seniors.  As a group, these young men have gone 56-16 overall, including a perfect 24-0 in the CSAC.  They have led the Cavaliers to three consecutive CSAC championships and a 4-3 mark in NCAA Tournament play.

Sophomore Ethan Heisman led the Blue and White with a career high six points, including a season best five goals.  Junior Corey Elmer matched Heisman's six points on two goals and four assists.  Sophomore Ben Laffoon also posted his first career hat trick.

Sophomore Mike Leyden opened the scoring at the 11:26 with an unassisted tally.  Senior Bobby Thorp found sophomore Damian Sobieski less than a minute later to double the lead.  Laffoon scored his first of the day with just over nine minutes to play in the opening quarter.

The Griffins broke through Cabrini's defense midway through the period, but Laffoon's goal at 6:15 extended the lead back to three.  Thorp's diving goal with 4:21 to play gave the Blue and White a 5-1 lead.  The Cavaliers then displayed their quick strike offense, as sophomore Anthony DiNenno scored seven seconds, after controlling the faceoff and sprinting straight to the net.

Elmer opened the second period with his first goal of the day just over two minutes into the period.  Back to back Gwynedd-Mercy man-up goals cut the lead back to 7-3 with 8:33 to play before halftime.  Sophomore Anthony DiSanzo ended the Griffins spurt with an unassisted goal at the 8:08 mark.  After 30 minutes of play the Cavaliers held an 8-3 advantage.

Cabrini began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Griffins 7-2, including four by Heisman.  The sophomore opened the period with a goal at the 11:50 mark.  Just 21 seconds later, Elmer tallied his second unassisted goal of the day.  Laffoon completed his hat trick with 10:44 left in the period.

The Griffins temporarily snapped Cabrini's scoring run, cutting their deficit to 11-4 but Heisman returned the momentum back to the Blue and White with three consecutive goals over a span of 3:16, extending the lead to 14-4.  Gwynedd-Mercy added another goal with 2:33 left in the third, but DiSanzo closed the frame in style, with his second goal coming with 14 seconds to play.

Gwynedd-Mercy struck first in the fourth quarter, finding the net less than two minutes into the action with their third man-up goal of the day.  Thirty seconds later, Elmer found Heisman for the sophomore's fifth of the game.  Junior Joey Shallow closed the scoring with an unassisted tally with just under five minutes to play.

DiNenno sparked the offense, winning 21-26 faceoffs and securing a game high 11 ground balls, five more than Sobieski and junior JoJo Cooper.   Cooper, Thorp and senior Tim Grenier also forced two turnovers each.

Freshman goaltender Chris Treat improved to 9-1 on the season, recording five saves.  Senior net minders Kevin Gallagher and James Scott also saw action between the pipes.

Seniors Bill Beck and Dustan Mangin led the Griffins (7-5, 5-2 CSAC) with a goal and an assist each.  Senior Ryley Okeefe recorded 16 saves in the loss.
