No. 5 Men's Lacrosse Close Regular Season with 26-5 Win

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The No. 5 Cabrini men's lacrosse team extended its conference win streak to 96 games with today's 26-5 win at Immaculata University.  The victory improves the Blue and White to 12-3 at the end of the regular season, including a perfect 6-0 in CSAC play.

Junior Corey Elmer continued his breakout season, matching a career high with nine points.  The junior posted four goals on just six shots and five assists.  Senior Bobby Thorp added a season high seven points in the win, including three goals and four assists.  Sophomore Ethan Heisman matched Thorp with a career best seven points, pairing two assist with his second consecutive five goal performance.

The Mighty Macs secured an early lead, scoring 90 seconds into the action.  Two minutes later, junior Bill McCabe found Elmer for a goal that sent the Blue and White on a spree of 12 unanswered goals.  Thorp gave Cabrini the lead at the 7:53 mark and found fellow senior Andrew Protenic 49 seconds later for a 3-1 lead.  Heisman' sfirst of the day came as an unassisted tally with 6:39 to play in the period.

Sophomore Anthony DiSanzo converted an Elmer pass for a 5-1 lead at the 5:23 mark.  Protenic added a pair of assist to his tally as the senior found Heisman and junior Joey Shallow for a 7-1 lead.  Thorp completed his first period hat trick with two goals separated by just 10 seconds, before Elmer's goal with 2:36 to play in the first quarter gave the Cavaliers a 10-1 lead.

Cabrini's quick strike offense was again on display in the opening minutes of the second quarter as sophomore Mike Leyden and Heisman scored two goals 15 seconds apart for a 12-1 lead with 13:15 to play before the half.  Immaculata's Ben Tuscai broke Cabrini's scoring run with an unassisted goal at the 10:58 mark.  Goals by Elmer and Shallow handed the Blue and White a 14-2 lead at the half.

DiSanzo opened the third quarter with his second goal of the day 64 seconds into the half.  Tuscai netted his third of the day, but it took Cabrini less than eight seconds to get the goal back on Heisman's fourth of the day.  Protenic recorded his fourth point of the game with a goal at 12:23.  

Nine seconds later Heisman found the net again.  Sophomore Frank Magazu tallied his third score of the season with 11:19 left in the period.  Elmer completed his scoring with a goal with 9:23 left in the period.  Ryan Cipriani's goal with 5:49 left in the third cut Cabrini's lead to 20-4 after three quarters.

Freshman Bruce Overbay scored his first of the final period less than 30 seconds into play.  Fellow rookie Cole Campbell doubled his goal season count in a matter of 33 seconds with goals at 10:38 and 10:05.  Freshman Kyle Bush scored his second career goal, on an unassisted effort with 9:22 to play.  The Cavaliers closed the day with goals by Shallow and Overbay.

Shallow completed the action with five points on three goals and two helpers, while Protenic paired two goals and two assists.  Senior defenseman Andrew Kvech scooped a season high nine ground balls, while senior Brandon Dunn secured a career high eight.  Shallow and sophomore Anthony Greco also led the club with two forced turnovers.

Freshman Chris Treat improved to 10-1 on the year after recording 11 saves.  Senior goaltender James Scott added four saves in the final five minutes of play.  

The Blue and White also controlled the faceoff circle, winning 28-35 chances.  Sophomore Anthony DiNenno won 16-20, while Dunn took 10-12 and freshman Chris Schneekloth 2-3.

Having clinched the top seed, the Cavaliers will host a CSAC Tournament semifinal game on Tuesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  Game time and opponent have not yet been released.
