HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team made its presence known as it entered the Colonial States Athletic Conference portion of is schedule today. The Cavaliers handed Centenary College its first loss of the season, a 25-5 defeat. The win improved the Blue and White to 6-3 on the season and extended the club's regular season conference win streak to 91 games.
Senior
Bobby Thorp led 14 Cavaliers who found the back of the net, as the senior tallied four goals and an assist. Sophomores
Anthony DiSanzo and
Kevin MacQuilliam posted hat tricks, while junior
Corey Elmer recorded a game-high eight points, including a career high six assists. Also among the scorers were freshmen
John Doherty and
John Motto, who scored their first career goals and fellow rookie
Jake Donohoe who scored his first career points with a pair of assists.
DiSanzo opened the score book just 3:20 into the game when he converted a pass from fellow sophomore
Damian Sobieski. Senior
Andrew Layne scored his third goal of the season at the six minute mark. Sophomore
Anthony DiNenno took the subsequent faceoff directly to Centenary's net and deposited his first goal of 2013.
Just 34 seconds later, Sobieski added to the advantage with a man-up goal, the sophomore's 13th of the season. Following a Centenary goal, Thorp posted his first of the day just 15 ticks before the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter featured a 77 spurt early in the period that removed any doubt from the outcome. DiSanzo, Thorp and sophomore
Ethan Heisman accounted for four goals, all assisted by Elmer, extending its lead to 9-1 with 12 minutes left in the half.
Sobieski added his second goal of the day with 6:39 left in the half. Elmer tallied his 40th career goal with just 2:22 left in the half. MacQuilliam's first of the day came just 30 seconds later, sending the Blue and White into the break with a 12-1 advantage.
Sophomore
Mike Leyden opened the third quarter with his ninth goal of the season and 50th career point. Following a Cyclone score, Thorp recorded his fourth goal of the afternoon. The senior closed his scoring for the day with just under eight minutes left in the third when he assisted on Elmer's second goal of the day.
DiSanzo completed hi shat trick at the 7:28 mark on sophomore
Frank Magazu's first career assist. Centenary cut into the lead with a goal 12 seconds late, but once again DiNenno struck on the ensuing faceoff, finding junior
Joey Shallow in eight seconds for the junior's fifth of the season. Sophomore
Eric Streicher and MacQuilliam added goals late in the period.
Magazu added a goal to his afternoon, 3:23 into the final period. Doherty's first career tally came with just under nine minutes to play, assisted by Donohue. Motto's goal came in the rookie's first action of the season as he found the net at the 7:35 mark.
Donohoe posted his second assist less than one minute later, when he connected with Streicher's for the sophomore's second of the season. Shallow added his second goal of the day on an unassisted tally with 6:24 to play. MacQulliam completed his third career hat trick with 84 seconds to play.
Senior goaltender
Erick Zarzecki returned to the Cabrini pipes, recording 10 saves in 30 minutes of action. Rookie
Chris Treat added three saves in the second half.
DiNenno led the Cavaliers with a game-high seven ground balls, while senior defender
Tim Grenier added six and sophomore
Anthony Greco a career best five. Freshman
Matt Figueroa forced a season high three turnovers.
Joey DeBiasse led Centenary (7-1, 1-1 CSAC) with three goals and five ground balls.
The No. 11 Cavaliers will face its last nonconference opponent of the regular season on Saturday when the Blue and White host No. 12 Denison University (8-1). Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. follow Cabrini's women's lacrosse game against Marywood.
