Field Hockey Tops Lebanon Valley for 1st Win

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. – The Cabrini field hockey team snagged its first win of the season on Saturday with a 4-3 win over Lebanon Valley College on the final day of the Drew University Fall Festival.  The victory levels the Blue and White's record at 1-1.

For the second consecutive game, sophomores Jen Webb and Kerry Anne Farrell led the attack.  The duo combined for three of Cabrini's goals, with Farrell netting two including the game-winner.

Junior Taylor Carroll put the Cavaliers on the board in the 18th minute when she redirected a pass from senior Erin McLaughlin into the net.  The Dutchmen evened the score at 1-1 in the 26th minute, sending the teams into the break tied.

Farrell reclaimed the lead for Cabrini just over two minutes into the second half as she took advantage of a misplay by Lebanon Valley's goaltender, tallying her second goal of the year.  Again, the Dutchmen evened the score, but Cabrini wasted little time in regaining the lead.

Webb's second tally of 2013 came just 92 seconds later on a shot from the far right side of the circle.

Farrell notched the eventual game-winner in the 57th minute, as she was on the receiving end of a pass from junior Karlie Gruccio before beating the goaltender.

The Dutchmen outshot Cabrini 23-10 but the Cavaliers' defense was up to the task.  Senior goaltender Genevieve Paulin recorded four saves to secure the victory.

The Blue and White will open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday when they face No. 14 Rowan University (1-0).  Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
