RADNOR, Pa. – While there are no moral victories in sports, the Cabrini field hockey can definitely take something from today's 3-2 overtime loss to No. 14 Rowan University tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The nonconference loss drops the Blue and White to 1-2 on the season.
The Profs (2-0) jumped on the board in the 16th minute, notching the only goal of the opening stanza. Rowan doubled its lead in the 39th minute, as the Blue and White struggled to find a sustained attack.
That changed in the 53rd minute, when senior
Erin McLaughlin scored her first goal of the season. The goal gave renewed life to the Cavaliers. The momentum paid off in the 62nd minute when sophomore
Jen Webb found fellow sophomore
Kerry Anne Farrell for the game-tying goal. The tally was Farrell's fourth of 2013.
The scored remained tied at 2-2 after 70 minutes of regulation, sending the teams to a seven on seven overtime period. Both teams had solid scoring chances in the extra time, before Rowan netted the game-winner 8:18 into overtime.
Tonight marked the second time in three games that Cabrini suffered an overtime defeat, this game lasting 10 seconds longer than Friday's season-opening loss to Swarthmore.
The Cavaliers made the most out of its offensive opportunities, attempting just three shots on the night. Defensively, senior goaltender
Genevieve Paulin recorded five saves.
The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday as it welcomes Gettysburg College to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The action is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m.
