RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse program grew a bit larger on Monday, as the Cavaliers officially signed Jaxson Utain to its roster. Head coach
Steve Colfer and Director of Athletics
Brad Koch officially welcomed Jaxson and his family to the program with Monday's signing ceremony.
"We are extremely excited to welcome our newest Cavalier to the Cabrini Lacrosse family," said Colfer. "When given the opportunity to recruit Jaxson Utain, we jumped at the opportunity. We look forward to having him and his parents, Dan and Tara, and younger brother Noah as part of our program for many years to come."
Flanked by his family, Jaxson, 8, was surrounded by members of the Cabrini men's lacrosse team as he signed his Letter of Commitment.
"Jaxson is the type of teammate who will lead us by example and show us the importance of hard work and how to face adversity head on," said senior
Anthony Greco.
The Utain family was brought to Cabrini's attention by Boston-based nonprofit organization, Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
This is Cabrini's second team to work with Team IMPACT, as the Blue and White softball team signed Jordyn and Coy Zajac in October.
Jaxson was diagnosed at 6 months of age with a brain tumor. Jaxson's tumor continues to recur and he has had a total of 11 brain surgeries. Although the tumor cannot be completely removed because of its location on his brain stem, Jaxson has been quite the fighter and has clearly shown he has what it takes to be a champion.
A student at Oak Ridge Elementary School, Jaxson is a huge Phillies fan, whose favorite player is Chase Utley. Jaxson also loves Chinese food and his dog, Chloe.
Team IMPACT children are drafted on to local college athletic teams and, in effect, become official members of the team from Draft Day through to graduation, attending practices, games and social events while forming
unparalleled relationships with the student-athletes and coaching staffs.
