Scouting the CSAC Tournament Field
The second semifinal game in the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament pits #2 Marywood University against #3 Centenary University. The two team faced off just a week ago (4/22/17) in which the Pacers (8-9 overall, 5-2 CSAC) captured a decisive 15-7 win over the Cyclones (7-6 overall, 4-3 CSAC).
Marywood had everything working for them in the first half. The Pacers opened the game with the first three goals, started by Matt Casto's unassisted tally at the 10:47 mark. Nolan Gottshall ended the drought at 3:43. Austin Maylor and Rob Maini tacked on a pair of goals to extend the lead to 5-1 with a minute gone by in the second period.
Castro added a career-high eight points with six goals and two assists. Zach Vaughn and Maini each tallied two goals and three assists. Vaughan set a new career best of five points. Maylor registered two goals and an assist, while Zach Beja netted a pair of first half goals. The Pacers outshot the Cyclones by a 36-27 clip. The Pacers held onto a slight 26-24 advantage in ground balls.
It is worth noting that the Pacers will be hosting the Cyclones, as they are the higher seed. Marywood is 6-3 at home on the season and a perfect 4-0 at home against CSAC opponents.
