Last Meeting: Cabrini used balanced attack to top Fords 13-10 (2/18/17, Edith Robb Dixon Field)
Six Cavaliers marked the scoring column, as Cabrini scored its sixth consecutive season opening win with a 13-10 victory over Haverford. Sophomore Ty Kostack led the Blue and White with three and three assists in his collegiate debut. Junior Timmy Brooks also notched a hat trick, while classmate Jordan Krug scored twice.

Sophomore goaltender Matt Nestler posted 14 in his debut, while senior Joey Hoey and Tommy DeLuca forced two turnovers each. Senior Riley Michaels scooped a team-high seven ground balls.

Senior Jack Sollee and junior Ben Frost scored two goals each for the Fords, while juniors Garet Trucksess and Stephen DeLeo paired a goal and an assist.  Junior netminder Dylan Slack recorded nine saves.

Cabrini Last Time Out: Cavaliers' season ends in NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal (5/17/17, Salisbury, MD)
The Blue and White's record setting 2017 campaign came to an end with a 17-5 loss to then No. 2 and eventual national champion Salisbury. The loss marked the end of a campaign that saw Cabrini post a 17-4 mark, tied for most wins in program history.

Brooks, Krug and freshman Jake Klein marked the scoring column, while Michaels and classmate Zack Gregory went a combined 13-25 at the faceoff spot with seven ground balls.

Nestler paired 13 saves and four ground balls, while Kostack forced a team-high two turnovers.  

Haverford Last Time Out: Late goals downed Fords in season finale (4/29/17, Haverford, PA)
The Fords saw their hopes a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament slip away, as Swarthmore scored two goals in the final 24 seconds to down Haverford 11-10. The loss ended the Fords' season at 7-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Frost led the Fords with three goals and an assist on a game-high eight shots, while senior Isaac Krier notched a pair of goals.  Slack suffered the loss despite recording nine saves. Senior Chandler Todd caused three turnovers and joined junior Jake Ephron with four ground balls each.

5 Factors for Cabrini
  • The Cavaliers boasted one of the nation's top scoring offenses, as their 16.05 goals per game ranked ninth in the country. The team also ranked in the top 10 in man-up offense (#3-.507), scoring margin (#5-8.24), assists (#5-191), ground balls (#7-786), fewest turnovers per game (#8-14.14), shot percentage (#9-.353) and clearing percentage (#8-.882).
  • Michaels won 67% of his chances at the faceoff spot in 2017, good for 15th in Division III.
  • Krug led a balanced offense that saw eight players record north of 30 points. The junior led the Blue and White with 75 points and 58 goals, while Brooks (53 goals, 18 assists) and Kostack (35 goals, 32 assists) ranked second and third with 71 and 67 points respectively.
  • Cabrini returns an experienced defensive unit that combined to force 73 turnovers last season. Led by sophomore Tommy DeLuca's 27 caused turnovers, each of the Cavaliers' top five defensemen caused at least 10 turnovers.

  • The Fords were chosen to finish seventh in the Centennial Conference, according to the league's head coaches.
  • Slack returns after ranking 29th in the country with an 8.35 goals against average.
  • The Fords return its top seven scorers from 2017, led by Frost, who paired 23 goals and three helpers.
  • With the graduation of All-American defenseman PJ Jackson, Haverford's defense will rely heavily on Todd and fellow senior Max Ellis, who combined for 35 caused turnovers last season.
  • Haverford enters the 2018 campaign looking to make its first appearance in the Centennial Conference Tournament since 2011.
