Last Meeting: DeVita's Two Goals Lead Cavs Over Ducks (9/20/2017, Hoboken, NJ)
The Cavaliers wasted little time grabbing an early advantage in the action, as the team forced five penalty corners in the opening 3:09 of the game. Cabrini took advantage of the fifth corner, as
Sara DeVita found the back of the net on a long shot off the corner.
The Blue and White held its lead for 10 minutes when Victoria Alvarez put the Ducks on the board.
The Blue and White continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half. The pressure paid off in the 51st minute.
Following a penalty corner, sophomore
Maggie Nolen's shot was saved, but DeVita was in place for the rebound, beating Stevens' goaltender Nicole Mottole top shelf.
The Ducks pushed to tie the game in the final minutes, but Cavalier goaltender
Taylor Bookman anchored a stingy defensive effort. The senior recorded four of her 11 saves in the final six minutes, while junior Holly Gremmel made an important defensive save with 30 seconds to play.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Offense Stalls in 5-0 Loss at Salisbury (9/15/18, Salisbury, MD)
The Cabrini field hockey faced its second consecutive top 15 ranked opponent, as the Cavaliers traveled south to face No. 6 Salisbury University.
The Sea Gulls built an early lead, scoring the game's opening goal in the ninth minute before doubling their lead in the 25th minute.
Despite fighting off 16 Salisbury shots and seven penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes, the Cavaliers trailed just 2-0. Junior goaltender
Devon Scharf kept the Blue and White in the game, recording six of her career high 15 saves before the halftime break.
Salisbury showed no let-up in the second half, keeping Cabrini on the defensive throughout the final 35 minutes. The Sea Gulls netted three goals on 19 second half shots and added seven more penalty corners en route to the 5-0 final.
Stevens Last Time Out: Washington & Jefferson Tops Stevens on Final Play (9/15/2018, Washington, PA)
Over the final ten minutes of regulation, Steves' freshman keeper Emily Franco made three saves as the Washington & Jefferson Presidents put heavy pressure on the Ducks, earning six penalty corners. Over the final 3:04, Washington & Jefferson earned four penalty corners alone, with the final one called right as time expired to end the second half.
The Presidents' Rachel Buyan began the game-winning play, taking the penalty corner from the right of the cage. Sophomore defenseman Allison Buffenbarger had a chance to break up the play, but the ball bounced over her stick to Alana Boyd, who redirected the ball towards the cage. A scramble ensued with the ball caroming to Buyan who pushed the ball beyond the reach of Franco's outstretched arms into the corner of the cage for the winning score.
