Tyler Johnston led the Cavaliers with four goals and an assist in the win. Damian Sobieski added three goals and a helper, while Mike Leyden and Joey Dalfo tallied two goals each.

The Poets took an early lead, scoring just 31 seconds into the game.  Leyden responded with a man-up goal with 13:13 left in the period.  Dalfo's first of the day gave Cabrini its first lead, but Whittier responded with three consecutive goals.  Johnston's unassisted tally with 70 seconds remaining in the opening period cut the Blue and White deficit to 4-3.       

Johnston found JoJo Cooper with 6:09 left in the second quarter to even the score.  Sobieski netted a pair of goals in the final 4:28 of the half, helping send Cabrini into the halftime break with a 6-5 lead.

Cabrini changed the fate of the game over a 1:23 span between the third and fourth quarters.  Johnston and senior Corey Elmer tallied unassisted goals in the final 33 seconds of the period.  A late Whittier penalty gave Cabrini a man-up opportunity to open the fourth quarter.  In the final seconds of the penalty, Elmer found Leyden to give the Cavaliers a 10-7 lead with 14:10 to play.

The Blue and White pushed their lead to 14-7 with just over six minutes left as they were able to coast to the eventual 15-9 victory.

Junior Tyler Kostack led the Blue and White with a career high seven goals. Classmate Jakob Klein paired three goals and two assists, while senior Nicholas Waligurski, junior Mike Gerzabek, sophomore Griffin Shira and freshman Konner Caplin scored two goals each.

Sophomore Luke McCallion dominated the faceoff spot, going 13-17 this afternoon with three ground balls and two assists. Junior Tommy DeLuca and sophomore Nick Werner caused two ground balls each and combined for seven ground balls.    

Senior goaltender Riley White scored the victory after notching seven saves and five ground balls in 45 minutes of action.

Cabrini seized control of the action in the early minutes, as Kostack scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes after the opening whistle. Eighty seconds later, Gerzabek extended the lead and the Cavaliers were off and running as they cruised to a dominant 20-6 victory. 

Whittier Last Time Out: Whittier 20, Morrisville St. 8 (3/14/2019, Delaware, OH)
The Poets started quickly as they built an early 7-2 first quarter lead over Morrisville St. All seven goals featured a different Poet, while five of the seven came unassisted. 

A 9-3 Whittier halftime lead gave way to a lopsided third quarter in which the Poets outscored the Mustangs 6-1. Ryland Clay highlighted the scoring for the Poets as he tallied a pair of goals in a three minute span. 

The Mustangs posted four goals in the final stanza, but proved to be too little, too late as Whittier cruised to a comfortable 20-8 final. Miles Moscato, Guss Simpson and Clay tallied three goals a piece to pace the Whittier attack.

  • DeLuca's 3.17 caused turnovers per game currently rank 31st in division III. 
  • The Blue and White boast one of the nation's stingiest defenses, surrendering 6.2 goals per game, 14th in the country.
