Scouting the Griffins (16-10-1 overall, 7-5 CSAC)
The Griffins enter the three game series against the Cavs riding a four game winning streak in which they are outscoring their opponents 30-13. Led by Dave Tatoian, Gwynedd Mercy's high powered offense has produced a total of 197 runs on the season, good enough for tops in the CSAC.
Tatoian himself is responsible for driving in 40 of those runs as the sophomore leads the CSAC in RBI's by a wide margin and currently ranks 17th in all of division III. He also ranks first in total bases (76), slugging (.752) and second in hits (41) and doubles (10) in the CSAC.
The Griffins pitching staff is led by Mike Di Ianni who nearly averages a strikeout per inning pitched with 40 strikeouts over 42.1 innings. His 4.46 ERA is good enough for second on the team behind Jared Gorman's 4.30 ERA.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Lost to Neumann 18-1 (4/18/17)
The Knights got to Cavs' starter
Jake Dohar early as the young lefty lasted just a third of an inning and was saddled with four earned runs off of four hits.
The Blue and White picked up their only run in the bottom of the first as
Tyler Norris reached base after being hit by a pitch. Following his 12th stolen base of the season,
Colin Birzes drove home Norris with single to center to make it 6-1 in favor of the Knights.
Six separate Cavs recorded a hit, including
Shaun Stackhouse (1-5),
Vince Gares (1-4),
Mikayle Holloway (1-4),
Kevin Glynn (1-3, 1BB),
Joe Aurite (1-4, 2B) and Birzes (1-4, 1RBI).
Gwynedd Mercy Last Time Out: Defeated Centenary 10-5 (4/17/17)
Nick Mulvey went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI's and hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the seventh. Shaughn Wright also had three hits and a pair of runs knocked in as Gwynedd built a commanding 10-0 lead before Centenary scored their runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Griffins tacked on runs in the third, fifth, and seventh before another three-spot in the eighth. Wright would knock home Tatoian with a single to left. After Justin Curtin drew a walk with the bases loaded, Mulvey plated Ryan Keen for the 10-0 advantage.
Jared Gorman worked six scoreless innings, scattering four hits, to pick up the win.
