Last Meeting: Griffins Edge Cavaliers for Sweep (4/22/17)
A rain soaked afternoon didn't slow either offense as the two team combined to score a total of 28 runs, as the Griffins took game one by a 7-2 final and pulled out a dramatic 10-9 come-from-behind victory in game two.
Cavs' starter sophomore
Jake Dohar lasted four innings and allowed seven earned runs off of nine hits.
Andrew Del Giudice came on in relief of Doahr to start the fifth inning and was cruising until the games final frame.
After a four run top of the first from the Griffins, the Cavaliers answered in a big way as they put up six runs in the bottom of the first to take the 6-4 early lead. The Griffins pushed across one in the third to draw to within one run, 6-5. Cabrini clung to their 6-5 lead until Gwynedd Mercy pushed across two in the fifth to grab the 7-6 lead.
The Blue and White retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two RBI double from sophomore
Vince Gares. A sac fly from junior
Tyler Norris in the sixth cushioned the Cavaliers lead as they led 9-7 heading into the games final frame.
Del Giudice had been cruising in relief up until this point when the Griffins' Ryan Keen delivered a two run shot to right center to even things at nine a piece. A single off the bat of Josh Lopez, four batters latter, gave the visitors all they would need to escape game two with a come-from-behind victory.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Diamond Cavs Roll Defenders 21-3 (4/13/18)
Cabrini seemingly had their way offensively in game two as they scored a program record 21 runs off of 21 hits.
Norris (2), junior
John Lindeborn (2) and senior
Dylan Butler all went yard, while seven Cavs in total turned in multi-hit performances.
Lindeborn turned in another strong performance overall at the dish, finishing 4-5 with four runs, five RBI's and two walks. Butler and sophomore
Vince Gares, meanwhile finished with three hits apiece and knocked in four and three runs, respectively.
Sophomore
Jake Dohar earned the start and lasted four innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out two and gave way to rookie
Chris Huyette who picked up the victory.
Cabrini took advantage of 18 free passes, including nine hit-by-pitches, en route to the 21 runs. Freshman
Brett Swire took the bulk of those inside pitches as he was pegged a program record four times in game two. The rookie reached base five times on the day, coming around to score twice.
Gwynedd Mercy Last Time Out: Griffins Top Pacers 15-5 (4/14/18)
Seven of the 16 hits went for extra-base hits including Dave Tatoian, who was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with four RBI's and four runs scored. Nick Mulvey drove in a career-high four runs adding a pair of doubles and a home run. Shaughn Wright notched three hits while knocking two runs and scoring twice.
Tatoian's two-run shot in the first was part of three-spot, to get the Griffins on the board early. For Tatoian, the homer was his 14th, moving into a tie for fourth place all-time.
Marywood countered with two in the bottom half on a pair of RBI base hits.
Ryan Keen walked with the bases loaded in the second to make it 4-2. The Pacers tied it in the third on a hit and an error.
