Last Meeting: Cabrini 3, Eastern 8 (4/26/17)
Michael Rodriguez got the nod as the starter for the Blue and White and cruised through two innings of work as the lefty faced eight batters and allowed just one hit.Â
Vince Gares pushed across the first run for either team with a sac fly to center to score juniorÂ
Joe Aurite in the top of the second.Â
The Eagles would respond in the top bottom of the third, however, as a double off the bat of Timmy Gorton evened things at one a piece. Andrew Boykin followed suit as he too doubled to plate Gorton and give Eastern the early lead.
A leadoff single from Colin Birzes in the top of the fourth got things rolling for the Cavs as they looked to pick up where they left off last inning. A single off the bat of
Dylan Butler followed by a balk from pitcher Kyle Daddario put runners on second and third with nobody out. Aurite evened things at two with a sac fly to score Birzes. Gares netted his second RBI of the day with a single to center to hand the Cavs the 3-2 lead. The Eagles pitching stymied the Cavs offense the rest of the way as the Blue and White managed just two hits over the remaining five innings.
Eastern would take a 6-3 lead in the fifth as they pushed across four runs off of five hits. They would add a single run in the sixth and seventh to cap the scoring at 8-3.
Birzes (2-3, 1R, 1BB) and Butler (2-3, 1BB)  both turned in multi-hit performances on the day to pace the Cavs' offense while Gares (1-3, 2RBI) and Aurite (1-2, 1RBI, 1R) drove home the three runs for the Blue and White.Â
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 20, Hilbert 0 (3/10/19)
The Diamond Cavs paired 20 runs with 18 hits, both season highs, to secure their eighth victory of the year.Â
SophomoreÂ
Steven Priest paced the Cavalier offense after finishing 3-4 with a season high five RBI's. SophomoreÂ
JD Barrett finished the day 2-3 with three RBI's, while seniorÂ
Tyler Norris (2-5) and freshmanÂ
Jonathan Baker (1-1) both drove in two runs a piece.Â
FreshmenÂ
Garrett Laraia andÂ
Brandon Loner rounded out the Cavaliers with multi-hit performances as each tallied two hits. In total, five different Cavs finished with at least two hits, while 12 Cavs marked the hit column.Â
SophomoreÂ
Andrew Corso collected his second win of the season after tossing five shutout innings and allowing just three hits and striking out four. JuniorÂ
Drew Jackson and seniorÂ
Tyler Ronayne combined for four shutout innings of relief and struck out five.Â
Eastern Last Time Out: Eastern 9, Frostburg State 10Â (3/9/19)
Eastern went into their last game having played seven games in eight days. The Bobcats, on the other hand, had all their arms available after a week without a game.
Even so, the Eagles struck first on RBI singles from Matt McHale and Liam Clarke in the top of the fourth. Mickey Foytik moved through the first three innings without much difficulty, but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Bobcat offense struck for six in the fourth. Jacob Breyer retired the final two hitters of the inning with a runner on second base.
Breyer stopped the bleeding, and though he allowed a single run in the fifth, kept the Eagles in the game for a rally. Eastern took advantage of some Frostburg miscues to build a five-run sixth inning. Britton Lawrence delivered the big blow with a three-run double to put the Eagles up 8-7. The Eagles added another run in the seventh and led 9-7 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
The first three Frostburg hitters reached in the ninth, and Steve Sattanino came on with one run in and runners on the corners. The sophomore right-hander struck out the first man he saw and retired the second hitter swinging as the Bobcat runner stole second. The Eagles elected to walk the bases loaded. The next two hitters drew walks to end the game.
