Scouting the Cougars
Kean enters the 2020 season with plenty of expectations as they currently rank as the No. 8 team in the country and were tabbed the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) favorites.

They return a plethora of production from a squad that averaged over 6.6 runs per game last season, including Zachary Marzano, Mike Perone Jr. and Frank LoGiudice. Marzano, a D3Baseball.com All-Region Third Team and All-NJAC First Team selection, currently sports a .333 average and a team high 10 hits. He also leads the Cougars with seven runs and is second on the team with eight RBI's and four stolen bases. Perone Jr. and and LoGiudice have tallied a .292 and .346 batting average, respectively.

Kean has been especially impressive on the bump this year as their staff has combined for a 2.22 ERA and .208 batting average against across 81 innings. They have allowed just 60 hits, while tallying 61 strikeouts. Kevin Stewart and Collin Kiernan have been the work horses to date as they rank first and second on the team with 19 and 16.2 innings pitched. Stewart has posted a team high 23 K's in his 19 innings.

Cabrini Last Time Out: No. 23 Rowan 13, Cabrini 7 (3/7/20)
The Cavs trailed by just one heading into the seventh inning, but a four run eighth and three run ninth for the Profs proved too much for the Diamond Cavs.

Offensively, the Cavaliers were paced by junior Mack McKisson. The outfielder paired three hits, including a pair of doubles, and four RBI's. Classmates Brendan Van Belle and JD Barretttallied the Cavs other two RBI's with one each. Senior Shaun Stackhouse reached base three times and scored three runs, while collecting steal number 10 and 11 on the season.

Senior Kyran Weemaels was saddled with the loss after allowing six hits and six runs (five earned) in three innings. Classmate Andrew Corso came on in relief and delivered four clean innings for the Blue and White. The veteran allowed three hits and needed just 46 pitches.

The Profs found success early against Weemaels as they pushed across two runs in the first, second and third inning. The Cavs answered with a run in the first and two in the second as they trailed 6-3 heading into the fourth. McKisson accounted for all three of the Cavs aforementioned runs as he clubbed an RBI double to right center in the first and followed it up with a two RBI single up the middle in the second.

Corso would come on in relief of Weemaels and quiet the Profs offense with four strong innings of relief. The Blue and White tallied a run in the fifth and sixth to pull to within one as the two teams headed into the seventh. A bases loaded walk from Barrett and a balk from Rowan's Patrick Sudnikovich with McKisson on third accounted for the Cavs pair of runs.

Rowan would answer, however as they struck for seven runs in the final two frames, highlighted by a three run homer from Mitch Walker.

Kean Last Time Out: Kean 9, Susquehanna 2 (3/1/20, story courtesy of KeanAthletics.com)
Junior Collin Kiernan earned his first win of the season after tossing seven solid innings and allowed just two runs and five hits while fanning six.

The Cougars jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third all with two outs. Philip Mahlik worked a full count walk and Christian Corcione doubled him home for a 1-0 lead. Chris Ciaccio followed with a double of his own to trade places with Corcione, while Zachary Marzano lined one up the middle to make it 3-0. Mike Perone Jr. kept the hits coming and found the hole to round out the scoring in the inning.

Kean added insurance with three more in the fifth as Mahlik opened the inning with a triple.  Corcione drove him in with a bloop single and after swiping second, came around to score on a wild pitch and throwing error. Marzano reached on an infield single and later scored on a throwing error.

The River Hawks erased the shutout in their half of the seventh as Peter Yarem singled and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Evan Knapp doubled to left for their first run of the day and Jeff Miller later lofted a sac fly for what would be Susquehanna's only runs of the afternoon.

The Cougars added single runs in the seventh and eighth on RBI hits from Perone and Mahlik.
