Freshman women’s swimming student-athlete Christina Melchiore has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 16.  The rookie was an integral part of the Cavaliers earning the program’s first ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship.

Melchiorre won three individual events to earn a share of the AMCC High Point Award.  She was also part of three championship relay teams.

On the opening day of the three day event, Melchiorre joined seniors Courtney Good, Breaghann Smith and junior Morgan Griffith to win the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.26.  Not only did the time set a new school record, it also met the time requirement to qualify the ladies for the ECAC Championship meet.

Melchiorre returned to the pool for the 50 yard freestyle and emerged with her first individual championship.  Griffith, Good, Melchiorre and sophomore Meagan Kalinoski set a new school record with a fourth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:28.03.

On Friday, Melchiorre recorded her second individual championship with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle.  Not only did her time of 2:01.06 break her own school record by nearly two seconds, the rookie also broke the AMCC Championship record by nearly one second.

Melchiorre ended the night with Smith, freshman Allie Stein and senior Elyse Phillips, as the quartet won the 800 yard freestyle, with a time of 8:40.0, 6.4 seconds faster than the previous school record set at last year's championship meet.

Melchiorre closed the meet with her third event winof the meet, posting a school record time of 54.97 in the 100 yard freestyle.  The rookie's time marked her second AMCC championship meet record, eclipsing the previous mark of 55.32.

In the final event of the weekend, the quartet of Griffith, Good, Smith and Melchiorre won the 400 yard freestyle relay with a school record time of 3:49.94, cutting over four seconds of the previous mark.
