Junior women’s lacrosse student-athlete Melissa Scanzano has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 30. The junior totaled eight goals and three assists in wins over Gwynedd Mercy and Swarthmore.
Scanzano recorded a career high seven points on four goals and three helpers in Cabrini’s 17-3 win over Gwyendd Mercy. The junior’s fourth goal of the day came midway through the opening half and marked the 100th tally of her career, all coming in just 44 career games.
The junior followed that with a four goal performance in the Cavaliers’ 17-9 win over Swarthmore, snapping a 14 game losing streak against Centennial Conference opponents. Three of her goals came in a decisive 8-0 spurt in the first half, which gave the Blue and White a commanding 8-1 halftime lead.
Though seven games, Scanzano ranks fourth in the CSAC with 28 points and 21 goals, while her seven assists rank seventh. Her 15 caused turnovers are second on the team, while her 18 ground balls rank fourth.
Scanzano and the Cavaliers (5-2, 3-0 CSAC) will put their five game win streak on the line on Thursday, when they visit Cedar Crest College (0-5, 0-1 CSAC). Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.in Allentown, Pa.
