Sophomore men’s basketball student-athlete Fran Rafferty was named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 18, 2011. Rafferty was an integral part of #10 Cabrini’s 71-68 comeback win against the University of Scranton.
Rafferty narrowly missed his first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Eight of Rafferty’s points came during an 11-4 Cabrini run with 14 minutes to play in the game. The burst came with the Cavaliers trailing by 13 points, their largest deficit of the season.
On the season, the sophomore is Cabrini’s fourth leading scorer, averaging 10.9 points per game on 55.2% shooting, including 40.7% from beyond the three-point line.
Rafferty and the Cavaliers (8-0) will travel to Danville, Ky. for the Papa John’s/Country Hearth Inn Tournament, hosted by Centre College. Cabrini will face Johns Hopkins University (5-1) on December 29 then either Berry University (0-9) or Centre College (6-3) on Friday.
