Senior men’s basketball student-athlete John Boyd was named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 4. Boyd reached a career milestone while helping the #12 Cavaliers to a 3-0 week.
The senior marketing major paced Cabrini to wins over Neumann University, Philadelphia Biblical University and Keystone College last week, averaging 21 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
Boyd’s week was highlighted by Saturday’s 95-92 win over Keystone College. The senior tied career highs with 31 points and seven made three-pointers.
Boyd’s first three-pointer gave him a career milestone. With 1:38 remaining in the first half, the jumper pushed Boyd over the 1,000 career collegiate point plateau.
In addition to his 454 points Boyd has tallied as a Cavalier, the senior posted 573 points at Immaculata University where he began his collegiate career.
His final three-pointer of the game, from about 25 feet and off the backboard, came with 1.7 seconds on the clock and gave the Blue and White its winning margin.
On the year, Boyd is averaging 16.6 point per game, good for second on the team, while grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game.
Boyd also ranks among the CSAC’s leaders in free throw percentage (#2 - .875), three-point percentage (#6 - .411) and three-pointers made (#2 – 3.0 per game).
Boyd and the Cavaliers will put their #12 ranking to the test on Wednesday when they face their toughest road test to date when they travel to Gwynedd Valley, Pa. to face Gwynedd-Mercy College. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
