Junior men’s basketball student-athlete Tyheim Monroe has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week. The junior opened the 2016-17 season with four double-doubles in leading the Cavaliers to a 2-2 record.
The junior leads the Cavaliers with 20.3 points, 16.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and one blocked shot per game.
Monroe opened the season with a 26 point, 17 rebound performance against Eastern before pairing 18 points and 11 boards in a 67-64 loss to Johns Hopkins.
One day later, the junior rebounded with 17 and 19 in an 85-80 win over the College of Staten Island. He added a monster 20 point, 20 rebound outing in the Blue and White’s 76-75 loss at Scranton.
Monroe enters this week leading the nation in total rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game (13.25), while his four double-doubles are second in Division III and his 67 total rebounds fourth.
Monroe and the Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, as they open Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a visit from Rosemont College (2-2, 1-0 CSAC). Tip is slated for 8pm, as the second half of a women’s and men’s doubleheader.
