Junior women’s swimming student-athlete Christina Melchiorre has been named the CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, February 14.
Last week, Melchiorre helped the women’s team capture a second place finish at the 2016 AMCC Championships, after tallying multiple first and second place finishes.
For the third consecutive year, Melchiorre won the 100 yard freestyle posting a time of 55.55, a time that could potentially qualify the junior for the upcoming ECAC championships. Melchiorre also joined classmate Allie Stein, sophomore Brooke Hagan and freshman Marissa Loro in winning the 800 yard freestyle relay in 8:43.29.
Melchiorre earned second place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle in 25.45 and 200 yard freestyle in 2:00.68. The junior also joined teammates in capturing second place in the 200 yard freestyle relay, 400 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relay.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Melchiorre, Loro, Hagan and sophomore Candace Brown finished with a time of 8:43.29. Melchiorre, Brown, Loro and Hagan scored a time of 4:30.35 in the 400 yard medley relay and also earned an impressive time in the 400 yard freestyle, as the quartet reached the wall in 3:55.88.
