Sophomore Breaghann Smith has been selected as this week’s CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week. Smith helped Cabrini’s women’s swim team to a 110-60 win at Ocean County College on Saturday.
The sophomore entered the pool three times and three times she emerged a winner. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Smith cut nearly 13 seconds off her season’s best time to finish in 12:01.18. Saturday’s time is also the third best time in the Allegheny Mountain collegiate Conference (AMCC) this season.
Smith followed that with a first place performance in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:57.52. In her final event of the day, Smith joined teammates Melanie Felkner, Lauren Ciccariello and Lauren Sliva, to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:58.73.
Not only is Smith one of the top swimmers on Cabrini’s team, she is also among the best in the AMCC. The freestyle specialist has the third best times in the 500-yard, 1,000-yard and 1650-yard freestyles. With various teammates, her relay times for the 400-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle, and 200-yard medley relays are also in the conference’s top three.
Smith and the Cavaliers will return to the pool on Thursday, February 16 when they participate in the AMCC Championships at Grove City College.
