Junior volleyball student-athlete Sophia Sokolovich has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 9, 2012.
The junior libero was instrumental in the Cavaliers finishing the week 3-2, including a third place finish at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. Sokolovich was named to the all-tournament team, joining a similar honor from Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament at Goucher on the season’s opening weekend.
In the Blue and White’s five matches last week, Sokolovich posted 92 digs and eight service aces. The junior recorded 26 digs in Cabrini’s five set loss to Union. In Cabrini’s next match, a five set win over Widener, Sokolovich recorded 21 digs and four service aces.
The 2011 All-CSAC First Team performer also surpassed the 1,000 career dig plateau earlier this season.
Sokolovich currently leads the team and CSAC with 193 digs and ranks second on the club with 10 service aces.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Thurday when they host their season opener, a rematch against Widener. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Nerney Field House.
