For the second time this season, senior field hockey student-athlete Lindsey Atzert has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 27. Atzert also received the honor for the week ending September 23.
Atzert netted two goals and two assists in Cabrini’s 5-2 win at Immaculata, clinching the #2 seed in this week’s CSAC tournament. Atzert was also named to the CSAC Honor Roll for her peroformance last week.
The senior’s goals came early in the game, giving the Blue and White an early advantage. In the 7th minute, Atzert and freshman Kerry Anne Farrell worked a two-on-one to perfection as Atzert scored her 12th goal of the season. Just 80 seconds later, Atzert doubled Cabrini’s lead when she collected a rebound off a Farrell shot and fired it into the net.
Both of her assist came in the second half in a similar time frame. Farrell found Atzert on a 40th minute penalty corner. Atzert sent the ball back to Farrell who extended Cabrini ‘s lead to 4-0. Eighty seconds later, the duo combined again as Farrell deflected an Atzert shot into the back of the net.
The two-time All-CSAC First Team honoree leads the Cavaliers with 13 goals, seven assists and 33 points, ranking in the top six among CSAC players.
Atzert and the Cavaliers will open the CSAC tournament this afternoon, when they welcome the Keystone College Giants to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m., with the winner to advance to Saturday’s CSAC championship game.
