Women’s basketball student-athlete junior Brittany Sandone has been selected as CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 30. This marks the second time this season that the junior has claimed the honor.
Sandone led the Cavaliers to a pair of wins at the Land of Magic Classic last weekend in Daytona Beach, Florida. The junior guard tallied 11 points in Cabrini’s 70-34 win over Western New England University on Friday.
She followed that with a season-high 23 points in the Blue and White’s 63-54 win over Kenyon College on 8-12 shooting including 6-9 from beyond the three point line. Sandone set career-highs with eight made field goals and six made three pointers. Her sixth three pointer of the game gave the Cavaliers a 52-50 lead with 4:12 to play, a lead Cabrini would not relinquish.
Through 10 games, Sandone is averaging a career-best 13.8 points per game. She also ranks second on the team in minutes (29.9) and assists (1.9). The junior also lists among the Colonial States Athletic Conference top performers in scoring, free throw percentage (.870), three point shooting percentage (.319) and three pointers made (2.2).
After a four consecutive road games, Sandone and the Cavaliers (7-3) will return to Nerney Field House on Thursday when they host the Albright College Lions. The nonconference game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
