Sophomore men’s swimming student-athlete Evan Strickland has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 12.  Strickland recorded four wins, a second place and a school record in a pair of meets last weekend.

In Saturday’s meet at Widener, Strickland won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.43 seconds.  He then placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, reaching the wall in 5:17.09.  The sophomore closed the meet by setting a school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:47.13.

Strickland’s performance on Sunday at Marywood was just as good as he secured three event wins.  The sophomore recorded a 1:04.52 to take the 100-yard backstroke.  He followed that with a 50.26 in the 100-yard freestyle and a 57.20 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Strickland was also recognized as Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference as the league’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week.

Strickland and the Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday when they host Ursinus College.  The action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Dixon Center Pool.
