Sophomore field hockey student-athlete Kerry Anne Farrell has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 3, 2013. Farrell helped the Cavaliers snap a four game losing streak to Alvernia University.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Farrell made her presence felt in the opening minutes of the second half. Following a Cabrini penalty corner just 90 seconds into the period, Farrell collected a loose ball, beat a defender and fired the ball into the back of the net for her 16th goal of the season.Â
The sophomore didn't waste much time giving Cabrini the lead, as she took a pass from freshman Taylor Mack and deposited the ball into the net, handing the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead less than six minutes into the half. Â
Farrell totaled four shots and a defensive save on the day, as Cabrini scored its first win over Alvernia in the teams’ five regular season-ending meetings.
Farrell closed the regular season with 39 points, second in the CSAC, and 17 goals, good for third in the league. The sophomore’s 1.13 goals per game rank 16th, while her 2.5 points per contest rank 26th.
Farrell and the Cavaliers (9-7, 6-1 CSAC) will open the 2013 CSAC Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. when they welcome Neumann University (8-11, 4-3 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. A victory puts the Blue and White in its sixth consecutive conference championship game.
