Junior women’s basketball student-athlete Amber Keys has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete for the week ending Sunday, March 9, 2014. Keys played an integral role in the Cavaliers’ historic NCAA Tournament run, posting a pair of double-doubles.
In Friday’s NCAA Tournament first round game, Keys led the Blue and White to its first ever NCAA Tournament victory, a 76-61 win over Moravian College. Keys played just 24 minutes but made each one count.
The junior matched a career high with 22 points, hitting 8-12 from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line. Keys also grabbed 11 rebounds, recorded two steals and blocked a career high three shots.
In Saturday’s 78-73 overtime loss to No. 8 Montclair State, Keys paced the Cavaliers with 21 points and grabbed 10 boards, including five on the offensive glass.
Keys was the Cavaliers’ second leading scorer on the season, scoring 13.9 points per game, while her 7.0 rebounds were tied for the team lead. The junior shot 0.512 from the field to lead the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
