Sophomore Victoria Nastala has been selected as this week’s CabriniAthletic.com Student-Athlete of the Week. The honor is based on Nastala’s athletic performance between October 17 and October 23, 2011.
The sophomore marketing major was an integral part of the Cavaliers women’s tennis team advancing to the finals of the CSAC Tournament. Nastala went a combined 3-1 in singles and doubles play during the tournament’s two rounds.
Nastala and her doubles partner, senior Michelle Lettmann, defeated Marywood’s number three doubles pair 9-8, 7-4 in a tiebreaker in the semifinal. On Saturday, they defeated their counterparts from Gwynedd-Mercy 8-6. Both were the Cavaliers’ only doubles wins of the weekend.
The sophomore’s singles victory came in the semifinal round against Marywood. With the match tied at three, the spot in the final came down to Nastala’s number six singles match. After winning the first set and losing the second, Nastala fought back to take the final set 6-2, giving Cabrini the 5-4 semifinal win over Marywood.
Nastala finished the 2011 season 9-4 in singles play and 12-1 in doubles play with Lettmann.
